Trip to Sai Kung(iii)

Date of trip: 3 Sep 2006
Weather: Overcast, calm, humid
Location: Stage 2 of the MacLehose Trail, Sai Kung, Hong Kong
Duration: 3.5 hours (+ 0.5 hour break)
Score: 60 out of 100

After leaving the Sai Wan beach about 20 minutes, I arrived the second beach — Ham Tin Wan. This is where we have our lunch, that the store selling sandwiches, noodles and beverages.

Then we go to our final stage of our trip. We had overcome the steep slope for about 1 hour on this final stage. This is the most difficult part of our trip. When you are not feeling good, don’t hesitate to take a rest.

At the end of the Stage 2 of the Trail, you will find the road and a bus station. Then you can return to the urban area.

At the end of the beach, a stream is running to the sea. If there is a heavy rain few days ago, this stream must flood. Without this stream, the beach scenery grade must lower.

Trip to Sai Kung (i)

Date of trip: 3 Sep 2006
Weather: Overcast, calm, humid
Location: Stage 2 of the MacLehose Trail, Sai Kung, Hong Kong
Duration: 3.5 hours (+ 0.5 hour break)
Score: 60 out of 100

If the weather is windy & dry, it is an easy trip, although over 90% of the Trail is paved road. Throughout the whole trip, I had about 40% of the Trail with scenery (I meant those scenes not only included green leaves).

Within 10 minutes from the starting point, I met the greatest reservoir in Hong Kong — High Island Reservoir. The view is only green in color, dark green on the hill, algal green in the water. Actually, the green color in water is the effect of real algae.

A great tortoise floating on the surface of the Reservoir!

Walk through the forests, valleys and streams, around 1 hour, it’s the first beach of our trip — Sai Wan (means West Bay in Chinese). Although people always said it’s a wavy beach, it’s still suitable for swimming. Or apart from swimming, you can choose sun-bathing to relax as well as camping to enjoy the environment.

Preface of Ship Hiking

It is convenient for you to have a hiking trip in Hong Kong. Once you drive or take the mass transportation from the urban to the rural area within 1 hour, you can start your hiking trip in the safe and deeply green trail.

Most, probably over 80%, of the trail in HK’s country parks are paved road.
